A very quick 4 years have passed since the original opening of the D’Parys pub and restaurant in Bedford, time has passed so quickly, when we heard that is was having a bit of refurb we had to double check how long it had been open – but fair play, every 4 or 5 years is a good idea for any pub/restaurant.
Luckily for Olly and I, we were invited to the relaunch press evening and we were so glad we went. Here’s what’s new:
Family brewer Charles Wells has added a touch of sparkle to its magnificent and much-loved D’Parys pub in Bedford, introducing a brand new bar area for enjoying a pint of cask ale (I had the IPA collaboration from the Wandering Brewer – you must try it if you’re a beer lover) or a refreshing gin and tonic in front of the open fire, a sleek and comfortable private dining room and delicious new fresh food menu – unveiled just in time for the best experience in Bedford in the run-up to the festive period.
On entering the new-look pub, we were greeted by a friendly team manning the brand-new bar area which boasts over 70 spirits and wines – this bar area makes D’Pary’s have more pub appeal, where I would be happy to go just for a drink and not just as a restaurant as I did before. A cosy spot for meeting friends for a pre-dinner cocktail, after-work drinks or for a Sunday morning coffee to catch up.
But it’s not all about the drinks – the new restaurant menu features a mouth-watering selection of breakfast options, lunchtime (including quick-service options for those at a lunch meeting) and dinner nibbles and grazers, including a ‘build your own deli-board option’, hearty burgers, tempting pastas and salads as well as a collection of home comfort dishes, available throughout the day. The deli board we tried was to die for – we polished it off between 2 quite easily – a highlight being the pork bites.
I spoke to Steve Wilkins, MD of Little Gems, which is the operating partner for Charles Wells’ Apostrophe pubs who said: “The D’Parys is one of our most treasured sites and is in a fantastic spot in the heart of historic Bedford. We’re delighted with the refurb and are particularly excited to launch our new premium dining menu to local residents and visitors alike – just in time for Christmas and New Year celebrations. We look forward to opening our doors and welcoming everyone!”
It’s great to see Charles Wells putting in so much effort into the world of pubs and keeping this tradition going, especially in a time when we see a large number of pubs in decline and even further, they are Bedford born and bread since 1902 with what we hear is an exciting new home coming next year – fingers crossed!
